Okeechobee County Schools Goes Live with ReaXium, by Design, in Phases
Skipping the pilot and following ReaXium’s phased rollout playbook, Okeechobee County Schools launched Student Ridership and MyReaXiumApp in time for the new school year, with School Reunification already on the roadmap.

The challenge: county-wide scale, one source of truth
Okeechobee County Schools runs one of the larger pupil transportation operations in the region: 39 route buses covering 197 runs across 11 campuses. At that scale, even small gaps in ridership visibility multiply fast, and state-required FTE audits leave little room for guesswork. The district needed a single, reliable answer to a simple question: which student got on which bus, at which stop, at what time, across the entire fleet, every day, without turning drivers and office staff into data-entry clerks.
Okeechobee County Schools’ transportation program today, powered by ReaXium
- 39 school buses on the road
- 11 school campuses served
- 4,030 students riding with ReaXium
- 197 daily bus runs
- 319 parents on MyReaXiumApp
- 4 transportation admins
- 3 solutions rolling out in phases
- 0 downtime during rollout
Why skip the pilot?
For Okeechobee, ReaXium recommended, and the district agreed, that a phased, production rollout made more sense than a limited pilot. With 39 route buses and 197 daily runs already needing full coverage from day one, a small pilot group would have left most of the fleet running the old way for longer, and audit season reporting needed to reflect the whole district, not a sample of it. Ridership came online first across the full fleet; MyReaXiumApp followed once that data was flowing reliably; Reunification is next.
“A phased rollout isn’t a slower path to going live. It’s a more deliberate one. Each phase only starts once the last one is working the way it should.”
ReaXium Implementation Team
One platform, built on what was already working
Okeechobee’s existing route planning lives in Transfinder, and the district didn’t need to rebuild that investment to get ReaXium online. Using ReaXium’s purpose-built ETL process, route, stop, and student data were brought into the ReaXium ecosystem in the background, so drivers, dispatchers, and administrators could start working from one dashboard without re-keying the district’s routing structure by hand.

What the team has today
- Real-time check-in and check-out across all buses, with automatic flags if a student boards the wrong bus or exits at the wrong stop.
- Fleet-wide visibility into all 197 daily runs from a single administrator dashboard.
- State-audit-ready FTE reporting generated in minutes instead of manual headcounts.
- Real-time boarding notifications for the parents and guardians now using MyReaXiumApp.
- A clear runway to Reunification: the same onboard devices will power the district’s next safety milestone.
Coming next: School Reunification
As Phase 3, Okeechobee is preparing to activate ReaXium School Reunification, extending the same tablets already on every bus into a dedicated crisis-response tool. During an evacuation or emergency, the district’s Safety & Security team will identify every student and staff member at an incident site, check them in at a reunification site, and release them only to authorized contacts, with real-time reporting for after-action review. No new hardware, no new interface for drivers, just a new capability layered on a system the district already trusts.
Welcome to the ReaXium network
Across 11 campuses, 39 route buses, and 197 runs, Okeechobee proved that a well-planned phased rollout can deliver full production coverage just as reliably as a pilot, right on schedule for the first day of school, with Reunification already on the way.
“Our priority is knowing where our students are and giving families greater peace of mind. ReaXium is helping us strengthen student accountability on our buses and keep parents better informed. Taking a phased approach has allowed us to support staff and families as we introduce each component, while building a foundation for more effective reunification during an emergency.”
