Tragedy may not be avoidable, but we must try to prevent it
On Friday, May 18th, another school shooting took place in the U.S. -- this time at a high school in Santa Fe, a town outside of Houston, Texas. The 17-year-old, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, wielded a revolver and shotgun that belonged to his father, killing 10 people and wounding 10 others.
The Texas shooting is the 22nd in U.S. schools so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive count. The measures taken by US agencies to address this problem are almost imperceptible.
We believe that effective education, information and communication between students, parents, teachers and administrators can prevent these events. We must ensure that schools are a space of freedom for children, not of danger, but of freedom to express their needs, desires and dreams and to be oriented towards healthy development.
Our School Suite solutions are based on security, effective and immediate information, data management and the issuance of reports to help school activities thrive, including the new version of ReaXium APP, a tool that allows parents to stay informed about their students' daily activities at school.
Reports out of Santa Fe are still struggling to find how this tragedy could have been avoided. At ReaXium, we are concerned with preventing it from ever happening again. Join us and others in the fight to keep schools safe.
